Wondering if you qualify for LIC's ₹50,000 scholarship? Here's who can apply, how much each course gets, which documents to keep ready and how to submit your form before 30 September. We also flag the renewal rules that quietly cancel scholarships, so you don't lose the money later. Written for students and parents, in plain English.
LIC Golden Jubilee Scholarship 2026-27: Don't Miss Sept 30
You've got the results. You've got the admission letter.
What's missing is the money for first-year fees. That gap is real, and it's
exactly why scholarships like this exist.
The LIC Golden Jubilee Scholarship gives ₹15,000 to ₹50,000
a year to meritorious students from economically weaker sections,
through the LIC Golden Jubilee Foundation. The application form
is online only, and the last date is 30 September 2026. Time's short.
Here's what you'll find below: who qualifies, how much you'd
get, which papers to gather and how to apply without slips. We'll also cover
the renewal criteria that can quietly end a scholarship.
Quick Facts: LIC Golden Jubilee Scholarship at a Glance
In plain terms, the scheme helps students who scored at
least 60% and have a family income below ₹4,50,000 a year. It
runs two tracks: General, for students after Class 12 or a diploma, and
Special, for those after Class 10.
Every number below comes from LIC's official 2026 scheme
document. Some websites still show older or mixed-up figures. We've checked
each rule against that document, section by section. Use the table as your
cheat sheet.

What Is This Scholarship, and Who Runs It?
The LIC Golden Jubilee Foundation runs the programme.
LIC set the Foundation up on 20 October 2006 as part of its
social-responsibility work. The goal is simple: help meritorious students
from economically weaker sections get better access to higher education
and jobs.
The scholarship covers studies in India at government or
private colleges and universities. It also covers technical and vocational courses at ITIs and NCVT-affiliated centres, plus integrated
courses after Class 12. So it isn't only for doctors and engineers.
What's Different in the LIC Scholarship 2026 vs 2022?
If you've landed on LIC's own scheme web page, don't trust
its numbers. It still shows the 2022 rules, including a ₹2.5 lakh income cap
and three instalments. The official 2026 scheme PDF contains the current rules.
That mismatch is easy to miss.
The LIC scholarship 2026 is noticeably more generous than
the 2022 version. More families qualify, awards are higher for professional
courses, and each Division selects more students. The Special track is now open
to boys and girls, too. Here's the side-by-side.

Who Can Apply for the LIC Golden Jubilee Scholarship?
LIC scholarship eligibility boils down to three checks: your
marks, your admission and your family income. You need at least 60% or an
equivalent CGPA in your last qualifying exam. You must also have joined an
eligible first-year course in 2026-27.
Passing year matters too. You should have cleared Class 10,
12 or a diploma in 2023-24, 2024-25 or 2025-26. Gap-year students, take note:
you're still in the window if you cleared the exam in one of those years. Check
your result date carefully. The official eligibility criteria are strict.
General Scholarship: After Class 12 or a Diploma
If you've passed Class 12 (or hold a diploma), this
is your track. You'll need first-year admission in medicine,
engineering, any graduation course, diploma courses, or vocational
courses at a government-recognised institute, or an ITI. Integrated
programmes count too. Your family income must stay within ₹4,50,000.
Special Scholarship: After Class 10
If you've passed Class 10 with 60% or more, you can
go for the Special track. You'd join Intermediate or a 10+2 pattern course, a
vocational or diploma course, or an ITI in 2026-27. Unlike the old
girl-child scheme, it's open to both boys and girls.
The Income Limit, Explained
The limit is ₹4,50,000 a year from all sources, counting
both parents and including farm income. Say your parents earn ₹2 lakh and ₹1.8
lakh. That's ₹3.8 lakh, so you're inside the limit. Income doesn't rank you. It
only breaks ties between equal marks.
Which Courses Are Covered (and Which Aren't)
The list is wider than most people expect. Medicine,
engineering, regular graduation, integrated programmes, diplomas, vocational
training and ITI courses all qualify, as long as the institute is
government-recognised. Everything must be a first-year admission for 2026-27.
Regular, full-time study is the rule.
Now the exclusions. Postgraduate study isn't covered,
and neither are part-time, evening or correspondence course options.
Open universities are out too. Self-study courses like CA, CS and ICMAI don't
qualify either. Save yourself a rejection and check your course type first.
Integrated and Lateral-Entry Students
Integrated courses that combine graduation and postgraduate
study are eligible for their full length. Diploma holders who join engineering
through lateral entry, or start first year after a diploma, also qualify if
they scored 60% in the diploma.
How Much Is the LIC Scholarship Amount for Your Course?
The scholarship amount depends on your course.
Medical students get the most, and the Special track gets the least. Awards run
every year for the length of your course, excluding any internship or stipend
period, as long as you meet the renewal rules.
One catch: these rates apply only to new entrants. Existing
scholars keep the rate they were selected at until they finish. So if a senior
quotes a different figure, they may be right for their batch. Always compare
like with like.

When the Money Arrives
Payment comes in two instalments, due on 1
September and 1 February. The first becomes due on selection. For the second,
you submit your first-semester semester result or an attendance
certificate. Colleges without semester exams issue an attendance
certificate plus a short declaration. Funds go by direct bank transfer
through NEFT.
What Your Whole Course Is Worth
Multiply the yearly rate by your course length. A four-year
BTech at ₹40,000 adds up to ₹1.6 lakh. A three-year degree at ₹20,000 gives
₹60,000. For MBBS, count about 4.5 years since internship is excluded. That's
roughly ₹2.25 lakh. Check your exact course duration first.
How Many Scholarships Are Up for Grabs?
LIC offers 13,440 scholarships in all, split across 112
Divisions. Each Divisional Office selects 120 students: 80 for the
General track and 40 for the Special track. Your application goes to the
Division that matches your address PIN code, so enter it carefully.
Gender slots are split evenly: 40 boys and 40 girls in
General, 20 and 20 in Special. If one side falls short, the empty slots can go
to the other. Here's the good part. You compete within your own Division, not
against the whole country.
Documents to Keep Ready
Scan and keep four things ready: your latest marksheet, your parents' income certificate, admission proof for 2026-27, and
your bank details. Keep each upload clear and generally under 2 MB.
You'll also authorise LIC to use your data, including your PAN
and e-Aadhaar number. If you're selected, the Divisional Office
checks originals against your uploads. Copies attested by an LIC branch
in-charge are accepted, so you don't have to hunt for a special stamp.
Who Can Issue the Income Certificate?
It must come from a competent revenue authority, such as a Tehsildar,
District Magistrate, Collector or Sub-Divisional Magistrate. It should show
both parents' gross annual income from all sources for the previous financial
year. An older certificate is fine if it covers that year.
Bank Details That Won't Bounce
Use an active account and keep a cancelled cheque
printed with the beneficiary's name. If your bank merged, use the new IFSC
code. A dormant account must be reactivated first, and it's worth checking the
account's maximum balance limit. Incorrect details here can delay your payment.
How to Apply Online for the LIC Scholarship, Step by Step
The whole process happens online. Here's how to submit the LIC Golden Jubilee Scholarship form: start with the link on the LIC home page, licindia. in. Sites also point to gjss.licindia.in as the portal. Type the address yourself instead of clicking random links. You may read that you must register first, or that there's
no sign-up at all. Reports differ, so follow whatever the live portal shows on
the day you apply. Then work through these steps in order.
- Open licindia and click the Golden Jubilee Scholarship Scheme 2026 link.
- Read the scheme document and the instructions for candidates.
- Enter your personal details, address and PIN code. The PIN sends your form to a division.
- Pick General or Special, then add your course details.
- Enter family income and upload your income certificate, marksheet and admission proof.
- Add bank details, tick the declarations and submit.
- Save the acknowledgement email. It names your Divisional Office.
Before You Start
Put your marksheet and income certificate side by side.
Match name spellings, date of birth and marks exactly. Typos are easy to make
and annoying to fix. Use an email address and mobile number you check daily,
because LIC's Divisional Office will use them to reach you.
After You Submit
Keep that email safe. All further messages come from your Divisional
Office. There's no direct online status tracker, so don't keep refreshing
the portal. Check your inbox and spam folder instead.
How LIC Picks the Winners
Selection is merit-based, division by
division. Applicants with family income up to ₹4,50,000 are ranked strictly by
their Class 10 or 12 percentage. There's no entrance exam. Top scorers fill the
seats in each category.
What if two students have the same percentage? The
lower-income family gets preference. If they still tie, an LIC official's
financial assessment decides. That's the tie-breaker order. A student
who isn't getting any other scholarship also gets preference in a tie.
Merit List and Waiting List
Each Division builds a merit list and, once its seats
are full, a waiting list. If some Divisions can't fill their quota, LIC
can pool the vacant slots for Divisions with waiting lists, up to 8,960 General
and 4,480 Special overall. So a waiting-list spot isn't the end.
After Selection: Verification and Payment
Selected candidates hear by email from their Divisional
Office. Then comes physical document verification, where officials
check your marks and income against originals. Bring everything, and don't
leave the paperwork for the last day.
Once your documents are verified, the scholarship lands in your bank account through NEFT. Arrears claims aren't accepted if
you file them more than 12 months after the academic year ends. So don't sit on
a pending claim.
How to Keep Your Scholarship: Renewal Rules
Winning is half the job. Keeping the award depends on your
marks, attendance and record. You'll need to pass every subject in every
semester and attend classes regularly, as your college defines it.
Treat each exam as a renewal test. A weak result can end the
scholarship, so plan your semesters like a scholar who wants the second-year
cheque. Here's what each track needs.
Medical and Engineering
Score at least 55% (or an equivalent SGPA/CGPA) in the
previous annual or semester exam, and pass all subjects.
Other Courses and the Special Track
Graduation in arts, science or commerce, and other General
courses, need 50%. Special scholars need at least 50% with all subjects passed
in the first yearly exam.
The Grace-Marks Trap
Pass a subject with grace marks, or clear a failed
subject in a later semester, and you become ineligible, even if your percentage
looks fine. LIC may consider genuine cases beyond your control, but only
through a formal, verified representation.
Rules That Can Cancel Your Scholarship
Some rules trip people up because they look minor. Normally,
only one student per family gets the award. LIC may allow a second if
the later applicant is female or both are. If a brother and sister tie on
marks, the sister gets preference.
Scholarships from other trusts or institutions rule you out,
but any government scholarship, state or central, is fine. If you change
course, you're paid for the original duration, or the shorter one if you switch
to a shorter course. Changing colleges? Tell your Divisional Office at
once. False documents mean cancellation and recovery of the money.
Mistakes That Sink Applications
Ø
Small slips can cost you a seat you've earned.
Watch for these:
Ø
A wrong PIN code, which sends your form to the
wrong Division
Ø
An income certificate that covers the wrong year
or leaves out a parent
Ø
Blurry or oversized uploads
Ø
Choosing a course type that isn't eligible, such
as part-time or distance study
Ø
An email address you rarely check
Ø
A dormant bank account
Do one last pass an hour before you click submit. Read every
field aloud. It sounds silly, but it catches errors your eyes skip.
A Quick Word on Fake Websites
Scholarship season attracts look-alike sites. The official
process is online-only, and the scheme document describes email contact from
your Divisional Office. It doesn't mention any fee.
Type licindia. in or gjss icindia yourself and
check the address bar before entering details. Never share OTPs or banking
passwords. If something feels off, call LIC's helpline at +91-22-68276827.
Your Next Step
The LIC Golden Jubilee Scholarship can carry a student
through an entire degree, but only if the application is clean and you follow the renewal rules. Check your marks, income, and course type; gather your documents; and submit before 30 September 2026. Then keep that acknowledgement
email safe.
